Well, after watching these two candidates vie for the "highest office on earth" as the pundits like to call it, let me say that I found it to be a disgusting exercise on both candidates parts of telling obvious, verifiable, lies. And these are the men who are both claiming to be seeking wisdom from God? Blech ... Sickening. It wasn't pretty to watch - pretty much a low point in American politics, methinks. JW

Well, having seen the light, I'll offer this thought: President Bush lacks any real "mandate" (in the historical sense that people have voted for certain specifics) except that he'll: staying steadfast on terrorism and Iraq. Kerry didn't do any better in that regard of course. That's the downside of negative campaigning - it makes it tough to morally claim a "mandate" on anything (except the very narrow issues articulated about terror and war). Tough to see anything but the co...

Once again, we are seeing an increading number of Americans visting my country (Canada) for medical tourist reasons. First, there was the recent Amtrack train running from LA to Vancouver BC (seniors prescription drug run), along with thousands (tens of thousands?; hundreds of thousands??; millions???) of others doing the same all along our shared border. Now, another another medical tourist venue has opened. This time it's a Seattle to Victoria ferry ride for Americans seeking flu shots. ...

Blogger Jeremy Wright has sold his blog, ensight.com. for $15,000, plus a monthly fee to continue writing on-line for the next year. It is thought to be the first 'clean' sale of a blog. Since starting in May 2003, the site now has some 100,000 daily followers, with writing primarily covering business and tech issues. The accepted offer comes from a web-hosting company. It will be interesting to see if Mr. Wright starts a new blog after his contract ends. And it's interesting to think ab...

I am wondering what the *median* family income (that's not the 'mean' average so-often quoted - but the actual family income dead in the middle) is in America. And how does that compare with some other industrialized nations, or major trading partners of the US, such as: Britian, Canada, Australia, Japan, France, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Singapore. Does anyone know? Thanks to all that answer. JW

I just finished reading a fascinating look at real or purported media basis in the news media, over here. Link . Very interesting and informative and definitely seems to show that there is a liberal basis to most news organizations. Since the Republicans have captured the White House in 16 of the last 24 years, but liberal news media outsells conservative news media by a 10 or 20 to 1 ratio, I'm left with the conclusion that liberalism sells. Everywhere but the polls! JW

In the coming days and weeks, there'll likely be an opportunity to cash in on some misunderstanding in the stock market. As Hurricanes Frances and Ivan blow their way across the southern costal areas, some investors will turn on-line or to their stock brokers and say - "I own Acme Insurance - sell it all! I heard the total devastation is going to be in excess of $10, $20, $30 Billion. Sell my stock. Now, in some cases, this might be the right move - but in many cases, these investors are s...

As some of you know, I work with kids who have learing disabilities, including ADD/ADHD. We exercise their brains, by working on core cognitive functions. I provide a licensed program (PACE) which does a pretty good job at improving cognitive functioning. However, I'm always on the look-out for potential break-throughs and improvements. So, I recently went to an on-line data-basis, which provides the theses of any Canadian student between 1995 and 2002. So I searched for "learning disabili...
